Well here for go again, this Sunday we attended the 2024 Richmond 48 Hour Film Project. So, what’s that all about, you ask? It is when aspiring film makers write, direct, and edit a film in 48 hours which is then shown on the big screen.
More Information on the 48 Hour Film Project
This is the largest filmmaking competition in the world. It can launch the careers for those looking for a job in the film industry.
There are 100 cities all over the country, and the world, which participate in the 48 Hour Film Project. It has been around since 2001.
Lastly, the winning film, of all the submitted films, is screened at Filmapalooza in 2025.
Judging the Films
Judging the seven minute films, I imagine, is hard for the judges to do. There are so many creative and good films to select from.
48 Hour Film Project Videos are judged on on:
- Artistic Merit – Storyline, creativity, entertainment value, etc. – 45%
- Technical Merit – Editing, sound, filming, etc. – 30%
- Adherence to Assignment – Following your assigned genre, having the required prop, line and actor/actress, etc. – 25%
Video from The Bloodlines
The films from the Richmond competition were shown in two groups, either A or B.
So, the film I was associated with was produced by The Bloodlines and in Group B. This title is, “Global Success University”. It tells the story of a homeless Global Success University graduate and how an incident with the university’s president goes viral on social media. That’s enough of the story without giving the plot away.
Ending Notes on Richmond 48 Hour Film Project
As always, I enjoyed watching all the films in the group B section. Each had it own charms and merits.
Now, we are awaiting later today for a list of the films that made the final cut; these will be shown again before a decision is made as to the winning film.
So, I say good luck to everyone who participated and entered the Richmond contest and may the Best Film Win.
Good Luck The Bloodline!
Update 7-27-2024: Unfortunately, the movie, “Global Success University”, did not go on to make the final cut. Better luck next year!
