William Rogers & Son, 1932, Friendship/Medality Pattern Silver Plate Spoon

Over the weekend, I found this old spoon in the junk store silverware bin.  It is pretty worn and beat looking but it would make a perfect serving spoon at the farmhouse.  The farmhouse has its Thanksgiving dinner out presently with lots of serving spoons needed for the faux peas, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, turkey stuffing, etc.  The silver coating has worn off the spoon in many areas.

The spoon was made by William Rogers and Son and dates back to 1932.  The spoon was made in the Friendship/Medality Pattern.  This reminds one of an Art Deco design.  Art Deco reached it height of popularity in the late 1920’s to early 1930’s.  The SS on the back of the spoon shows it was made with a good silver coating.  It also has a USA marking.

The large IS initials indicates it was International Silver.  International Silver was a cartel of silverware manufacturers formed in 1898 and went to 1983 when it stopped making silver.  International Silver was once the largest silver company in the world.  The ICS, also, sponsored the Silver Theater which was a radio broadcast and product endorsement by Hollywood actresses such as Judy Garland, Dinah Shore and Anne Baxter.  Price of spoon?  25 Cents.
