I took this photograph of the shoes on my back step. I really like the composition and think the shoes tell a little bit about the people who live in the house. At first, I was not sure what to blog about in regards to this photograph.
Then I had an old memory of growing up. As a child, my mother kept an old wooden ammunition box with a lid on her front porch near the front door. I remember the box had a rope handle on each end. If you entered the house and had dirty or wet shoes, you placed them in the box and always shut the lid. Why you ask? Well if you tossed your shoes on the porch, a scorpion or black widow spider could crawl into the shoes. If you put them in the box, you were safe from that type of mishap.
Once we even saw a black tarantula in the field above the play house. However, I don’t think the tarantula would have ventured close to the house due to the cats and dogs.
Now a days, I don’t worry about stray scorpions or black widow spiders getting into my shoes. I guess my life lacks that “surprise” element as far as shoes go.
