White-Tailed Deer in Urban Settings

Although white-tailed deer are magnificent animals, I really do not want them in my yard.  The above photograph was taken of a deer in my front yard.

This deer easily jumped over my fence and was strolling near the sidewalk.

I spent tons of money last year on landscaping my front yard, so I do not want deer in my yard mulching on my new plants.

The deer was first noticed walking over my patio.

When I looked in my yard, the deer was eating a few lower tree branches.

This is only the second deer I have seen in my yard in all the years I have lived here.

White-Tailed Deer Facts

White-tailed deer grow 4 to 6.4 feet long from tip of nose to end of their tail.  They weight about 95 to 190 pounds.  They, also, have a distinct white tail.

Breeding season is October through January.

Most deer are active at dusk and dawn.  However, in suburban or urban areas, they can be active during the daytime.

Deer are herbivores eating woody plants, vegetables, fruit, acorns and even ornamental plants.

White-Tailed Deer are an “edge species.”  This means they can live on small patches of woodland in urban or suburban areas.

If this deer returns or brings “friends”, I might have to review my blog on deer deterrents.

For now the deer is roaming way too close to our busy street.  I don’t want to scare him so that it runs into the road causing a car collision.

Deer please go home to the woods where you will be safe.
