Not long ago, visiting Fredericksburg, VA, was on my agenda. Fredericksburg is a city located on the Rappahannock River. The city is rich in colonial and civil war history. There is shopping, restaurants, and art galleries, plus more.
There are quite a few antique shops in the town. I love the below photograph of pink bath bombs displayed in a baby or child’s vintage bath tub.
Fredericksburg Area Museum
I always like to tour the local museums to get a feel for the town. At the Fredericksburg Area Museum, we met a lovely lady at the front desk who offered us a military discount. The museum has three floors which surprises me. The top floor held work from local artists. The one art piece I found most interesting was the three ladies wearing African prints but not sure of the title.
Since it was so hot and humid outside, it was nice to be able to sit for a few minutes to rest and reflect on the art work.
This museum has a little bit of everything from Native American artifacts to information on local medical care.
The Fredericksburg museum had very comfortable chairs and benches to sit on.
Otter Statues
I was wondering why there were so many otter statues in this town.
In looking things up online, back in 2021, they were collecting funds to make and place the brass river otters. Otters apparently show a connection to the town and the river front. They even have a Riverfront Park with lots of things for kids to play on. Otters, also, apparently like clean water and the Rappahannock River is very clean.
I noticed the brass river otters are securely cemented on bases or rocks. Apparently, back in 2022, one of the otters was moved to a different location. But it was later found and returned to its proper location.
This wall mural is so realistic, it’s hard not to stop and appreciate the art work.
Ending Notes on Visiting Fredericksburg Blog
We both enjoyed our visit to this delightful city. We were there early Sunday morning, so most of the stores were not open yet. Apparently, they get quite a few tourists but seem to have ample parking.
I would definitely return to this nice city and tour a few more places of interest.
