Yesterday I visited the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum or the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center.
It has been years since I visited the museum.
Since my last visit, they have about doubled the amount of planes and exhibits displayed.
I also entered the museum after 4 p.m. when there is free parking. The usual parking fee is $15.00 a day. The museum closes at 5:30 p.m.
Discovery Space ShuttleThis is a picture of the Space Shuttle Discovery. It was part of the NASA space shuttle program. The space shuttle orbited the Earth but landed like an airplane.
The mission was from August 30 to September 5, 1984.
View of Space Shuttle DiscoveryThis photograph shows the back section of the Discovery Space Shuttle with some of the outer tiles missing.
Tomcat Navy Fighter PlaneThe Tomcat was an American made supersonic, twin-engine, twin seat, variable sweep wing fighter aircraft. The Tomcat was built to defend American carriers from attacking aircraft.
Information on the F-140 TomcatOn flying the Tomcat it was a, “Hard airplane to fight in a dog fight. Get them to 280 knots, with wings swept forward,. . . Can’t beat them.”
Enola Gay AirplaneThe Enola Gay airplane dropped the atom bomb on Japan. There were a lot of visitors looking at this plane.
I enjoyed my visit to the Air and Space Museum and will definitely visit it more than once every several years to see what new displays they have.
