Vintage Washboards
I have owned these two washboards for a number of years.
The larger one was made by the National Washboard Company, no. 801. The other side has wording that it is a Brass King and Top Notch with a sanitary front drain. The motto is, “The Board will Do the Work”. Not sure exactly what that means? Scrubbing clothing was hard work.
The smaller washboard, was used by my mother. It is also from the National Washboard Co. No. Nation 703. Made in the U.S.A., Chicago and Memphis.
During WWII metal was used for the war effort, so some of the washboards fronts were made of glass.
Washboards, also, can be used as musical instruments. Anyone up for a tune?
