Vintage Toy Tea Kettle

This vintage toy tea kettle came from a charity secondhand store. It is so interesting, I decided to blog about it.

As things go, if you fill a whistling tea kettle with water and place it on a hot stove, when the steam build ups and it actually whistles. The whistle alerts a person that the water is hot enough to make tea. Because, what could be better than enjoying a cup of hot tea.

Vintage Toy Tea Kettle Description

This vintage tea kettle is probably from around the 1940’s and measures approximately 4-inches in diameter and is about 3-inches high. It has a securely attached red metal handle and a red wooden top on the spout. The spout is removable for serving that pretend tea. The toy kettle has no holes, repairs or missing parts to it.

Unfortunately, the tea kettle does not contain any markings on the bottom or elsewhere. In looking online, I think it might have been made by the Mirro Aluminum Company of Manitowoc, Wisconsin. They made a cooking set which was called, “Aluminum Toys -Like Mothers by Mirro”. The set contained a variety of toy cooking items such as pots, pans, jello molds, measuring cup, etc. It was advertised as being safe, unbreakable, and rust-proof.

Because the tea kettle has several small dents and a chipped red handle, it definitely looks worn. But, one can see, it was, also, well loved by some child used while making that pretend tea.

Serving Tea?

So, do you remember when toy tea kettle sets allowed children to mimic their parents serving tea? I remember going to the 5 and 10 store and getting a mini toy china tea set complete with mini cups, saucers and a small tea pot with a lid. I believe, it also came with a lidden sugar bowl.

Please note, the toy tea kettle is photographed on a vintage-looking patchwork apron. The apron has one pocket which is outlined in yellow and light blue rick rack.

In the photograph on the right you can see the approximate size of the toy kettle when compared to a fork.

Ending Notes on Vintage Toy Tea Kettle Blog

So, I’m thinking, such a lucky find in my secondhand shopping quest.

In the end, this interesting toy tea kettle was donated to a farmhouse museum and became part of their childhood toys set. Present day children, love to come in and look at the vintage toys. Unfortunately, those vintage toys at the farmhouse are only for looking, not touching.

The photograph on the left, shows the bottom of the toy tea kettle. It has concentric rings on the bottom.

It almost looks like it was used over a fire source.

Question of the Day – Did you play with toy tea sets as a child?
