I wanted to blog today about this vintage set of N. Gori salt and pepper shakers.
They are approximately 6.75 inches long including the plastic tops and are made of clear amber colored glass in the shape of grape clusters.
The original grape design was intended for perfume bottles which were made into salt and pepper shakers.
I have two orange colored plastic tops although I saw on line that one top should be blue probably to indicate the pepper shaker.
Vintage N. Gori Salt and Pepper Shakers Bottom of N. Gori Grape ClusterThe bottom of the salt shaker is marked with the wording “Patent N. Gori Certaldo Italy”.
I thought it was interesting that the original design was for a perfume bottle. I saw some vintage Chianti bottles shaped in green grapes of a similar grape design.
I also thought it was intriguing that the bottles were marked “Patent”. Was the patent for the multiple uses for the grape bottle design—perfume, wine or salt shakers?
The N. Gori company also produced vintage black and white vintage poodle bottles filled with wine.
This salt and pepper set was given to me by a relative and I’m not sure of the age of this set.
Certaldo is a town and comune of Tuscany, Italy. When I searched for the N. Gori glass company, I was unable to find any history or information on that.
If any of my readers can give me more information on these unusual European salt and pepper shakers, I would appreciate it. Thanks!
