Vintage Bermuda Handbags

Today we are off to the vintage fashion runway to blog about Bermuda handbags.

The Bermuda handbag was the fashion statement in the 1970’s to 1980’s for any woman who wished for a preppy accessory.

These bags were made with inter-changeable fabric covers.  In this way, you could change the bag cover to go with your outfit or mood.

It was even possible to get your monogram sewn onto the covers.

Bermuda handbags were made in an oval or round shape with hard wooden handles.

The Bermuda handbags did not have a lock on the bag so it was better to leave those valuables at home.

Bermuda handbags were great as resort wear or to take with you when having lunch at the county club.

This photograph of my designer Bermuda handbag shows a handle made of dark brown wood.

On the front and back of the bag are four pearlized buttons.

The outside cover was bright Kelly green with green piping. The inside had pattern of green, blue and white ducks in flight on a tan background.

The Bermuda handbag covers were often sewn with coordinated colored piping and button holes.

On my Bermuda handbag one side of the cover was blue with a peach piping and the other side was an aqua, turquoise, yellow and peach butterfly pattern on a white background.

I have actually seen a variety of wooden bag handles you can purchase from craft stores if you wish to try making a bag on your own.

For now, I’m keeping my Bermuda handbag in the hopes that will I be able to take it with me on my next resort vacation.

In all honesty, I’m probably not going anywhere soon, nor did I take it with me to too many lunches at the county club but with a preppy heart I can still hope, right?

I translated your poem. If I translated things correctly, the poem was about crying over your friend’s tomb but the tears shed only make the living feel better. It is both sad and profound. Thanks for sharing.
