Upscale Grocery Shopping and Dry Aged Beef

I stopped in my local gourmet grocery shop for coffee.

I like a good cup of coffee and this store has great coffee.

The above photograph shows a basket of Valentine’s Day cookies cut from hearts and cleverly decorated.

The pink ladybug cookie has small heart dots.  The lovebird cookies are pink and blue pressed together in true Valentine’s Day style.  Very creative.

The gourmet cheese selection was impressive.  I also liked the cheese and nut platters.  The photograph of the cheese and nut platter contains a wheel of brie cheese.

This cheese platter looks delicious and would be nice for entertaining or even a Valentine’s Day treat.

Dry Aged Beef Display Dry Aged Beef Display

This is the first time I’ve seen a dry aged beef display and was very interested in the process.

The beef cuts are either hung or placed on shelves along with large slabs of pinkish colored salt.  The salt pulls the moisture from the beef making it very tender and almost buttery tasting.

While the meat slowly dries out over roughly 21 days’ time, it is kept in a temperature controlled case which is set at about 37 to 40 degrees.

I would love to taste some of the dried aged beef.  It is probably best to reserve it for a special occasion.

This store was still setting up this attractive display of a huge wheel of aged cheese from 1995 and bottles of Chianti.

Cheese, wine and crackers always a great snack on Valentine’s Day.

Fresh Tomatoes and Basil Fresh Tomatoes and Basil

This basket of red tomatoes looks freshly harvested.  There is also a pot of fresh basil in the background to go with those tomatoes.

The tomatoes are so artistically displayed it looks like a picture.

I would almost hate to buy a few tomatoes from the basket, it would mess up the perfect placement.
