Trimming Trees

Ever since we fixed our chimney, we have been thinking of trimming trees back. The neighbor’s maple tree branches grew over over the property line to our chimney and roof area.

Since we plan on using our new wood stove soon, we thought it would make good fire safety sense to trim everything back.

Also, their leaves are falling on our roof and near our gutters.

using a Lopper & Pole

We ordered this new bypass tree lopper and it arrived today in the mail. We decided to give it a quick test use.

This lopper will cut branches up to 2-inches in diameter.

We did not add the saw portion to the lopper because it became tangled in some of the leaves.

The lopper came with a long extendable aluminum handle.

We liked that we could add or remove sections of the handle to adjust for height of trees we wanted to trim.

It came with an 8-foot nylon rope for pulling the mechanism.

This wasn’t long enough for our project so we tied on a longer rope.

Since the tree branches were up so high, we needed to add several lengths to the pole.

It was difficult to see the limbs through all the leaves but we were able to cut several branches away from our house.

It took a little bit of arm strength to position the lopper on the correct limb. It was nice to work with two people on this project because sometimes the rope slipped from your reach after you had positioned the lopper. The second person, also, pulled on the rope to cut the branches.

Ending Notes on Trimming Trees Blog

We will use this unit again for trimming trees but it will helpful to add a lighter weight rope to the unit. The rope we added was too heavy.

When finished, we had a trash can full of branches so our test use was quite successful.

This tree lopper definitely worked better than getting out the ladder or standing on the roof. Trimming trees this way can be dangerous if you are not careful.
