Well, we went out for a drive and decided to visit The Swiss Bakery in Springfield, VA. Initially, we wanted to enjoy their Oktoberfest Festival with live entertainment, however, we mixed the days up and came on Saturday instead of Sunday. But, not to worry though, we had a great bakery visit.

This Lebkuchen Heart cookie is super large and made from gingerbread mix. It is hand decorated with royal icing and sells in the Swiss Bakery for $18 each. The writing on this cookie translates to “Kiss Me”. Nice sentimental thought.
Our Visit to the Swiss Bakery
We decide to have a coffee and Swiss Hot Chocolate and a couple slices of apple strudel. The Swiss Bakery also sells some food items from Switzerland.

Our order was taken by Jen, the delightful person at the counter. Even though the bakery was packed both inside and outside, we were greeted and given prompt service.
I checked out their menu when I sat down. They have a variety of different things to try out such as a Leberkase Sandwich, Bavarian Breakfast, Jagerschnitzel, Curry Wurst and more. The breakfast sandwich uses cage-free eggs, and you can add Emmentaler, Gruyere or Raclette cheese. On Saturday and Sunday, the bakery sells Bavarian Beer Goulash soup.
Jen remarked that we should return tomorrow for the festivities, alas, this was not in our weekend plans.

Ending Notes on the Swiss Bakery
We enjoyed the fresh flowers on our table, and we also enjoyed our apple strudel and hot drinks. I found the strudel filled with apple pieces plus raisons and almonds iced with a sugar glaze. You can also preorder a strip of apple strudel which provides 8-10 slices for $36.

Although I have never been to Switzerland, we enjoyed the apple strudel and our visit to Springfield.
A special thank you to Jen, our server, for asking management, if we could blog and take photographs of their bakery.
