Shattered Oven Door

Shattered Oven Door Shattered Oven Door

I was sitting watching TV yesterday, when I heard a thunderous crash in the kitchen.

The sound was unlike anything I’ve ever heard before.

When I went into the kitchen, I discovered that exterior window of the oven door had shattered and there were small glass pieces scattered all over the kitchen floor

How is this even possible?  No one was in the kitchen at the time.  The oven was not even on.

In all fairness, my range is over ten years old and has been pretty problem free during its life span.

I’m not going to call a repairman to fix a broken window on an old range.

I’ve checked out the internet, and over time, an oven door can develop small cracks in the window and shatter.

I’ve been doing some online shopping to see what ranges are on sale and what features I want.

There seems to be a lot of high end ranges are being made with duo ovens.  I guess you can bake multiple items at the same time with different temperatures.

There is also a new pre-heat fast oven available and some ovens available with steam cleaning.

I went out this morning and basically purchased the same range brand with a convection feature.  I figure it will, also, match the color of my refrigerator.

Glad I made that purchase but no oven for the next several days until delivery.

For now, I’m rethinking menu choices.

  1. Ann,
Thanks for the comment on shower doors and for reading our blog. I’m expecting my new range tomorrow. I miss not being able to use the oven. Have a great day and stay safe.

  2. Well I learned about a year ago, while researching the removal of hard water marks from showers, that shower doors can spontaneously shatter, too. I was shocked and dismayed. It is why a few people, perhaps many, keep a towel within reach at all times so they can walk barefoot out of the bathroom if this occurs. But I had no idea it could happen to a oven glass door. Something else to watch out for.
