Summer Birthday Celebration

Here at Farmhouse Magic Blog, we had a special birthday celebration this week.

The table was set with a golden-brown colored tablecloth and a wide-white table runner was placed down the center. Since I didn’t have any fresh flowers, I used some faux greenery and a large bumble bee flower pick. The cloth table napkins were printed with a flowered pattern on a brown background. I used one of the matching napkins to hid the artificial stems in the blue vase I used.

The red velvet cake, pictured below, had a cream cheese filling and was in three layers. I ordered a special candy birthday plaque for the cake. I was told to place the plaque on the cake before serving. The cake plaque was actually edible. It tasted a bit like those candy hearts they have around Valentine’s day. I left the cake on the table while we ate. The cake was ordered from my favorite European-style bakery.

The cake was decorated with a dusting of powered cocoa on top along with whipped cream swirls.

When I picked up the cake, I immediately smelled the fresh scent of chocolate.

The dinner menu consisted of steak fried with cut up mushrooms and green spring onions. We had fresh corn on the cob along with assorted colored fresh pepper salad.

Browning Tip: During the last few minutes of frying the steak, I tossed a pat of butter in the pan to make sure the steaks browned nicely.

I also served the thirst-quenching hibiscus ginger tea over ice. I used the previous FMB’s recipe, however, I omitted the sugar and we used sugar substitute at the table to sweeten the drinks.

Juneteenth Celebration

I forgot to garnish my hibiscus ginger tea with a slice of fresh lemon.

Apparently fresh mint also works as a garnish.

To make the hibiscus ginger drink, I used fresh organic ginger root. I noticed the organic ginger root was much smaller and seemed to have more flavor than the regular larger sized ginger root I buy.

We really had a wonderful birthday celebration. The meal and the dessert were perfect.

For Your Information: The tablecloth was previously purchased in a secondhand store. There were having a 50% off sale and I believe I got it for about $2.50. The cloth napkins were also purchased secondhand. The white table runner was purchased, I believe, in Pottery Barn.
