Spring Fair

So, over the weekend I volunteered for a Spring Fair at a local park. I had two options to select from. Number One, I could help out with donkey rides in the lower riding rink. Or, number two, I could help out at the tent.

The donkey rides were really a packaged deal since participants could color or draw on a *large tablecloth. One could also try sitting on different saddles while waiting for a turn to ride one of the donkeys. At the end of each ride, the participants “won” a show ribbon to take home. They could select a variety of colored ribbons; however, I heard the pink ribbons were popular and went quickly.

OK, I really don’t know too much about donkeys, so I selected the tent option.

Volunteering at the Spring Fair Tent

From the tent, a plant fundraiser was going on. Although they had a delightful gardener supervising the plant fundraiser, it was so busy, everyone stationed at the tent helped with the plants. Some of the plants were preordered, so they were already boxed and labeled for pick up. All we had to do was to make sure they signed the paper that they received the plants they ordered.

I was amazed at the selection as they had–herbs and vegetables, ornamental plants, native plants, etc. Actually, when I first arrived, I selected the three tomato plants that were going home with me, and I put them aside. Apparently, all the plants are grown and donated by various local gardeners.

Interestingly, one person picked up all five of the milkweed plants. She was trying to attract orange Monarch butterflies to her garden. I love it when people try to help out nature a bit.

Other Things to Do at the Spring Fair

There was a variety of things to do and see at the Spring Fair. There were farm animals to visit, a series of puppet shows, and a blacksmith gave a demonstration. Park visitors could check out vintage farm machines, play in the corn “sandbox”, see the spring maypole, or go on a wagon ride.

Ending Notes

In conclusion, I enjoyed my morning volunteering shift at the tent and also helping out with the plant fundraiser. Not to mention, answering any questions from Park visitors.

All in all, it was a great Spring Fair and, of course, I hope to do it again next spring.

Enjoy your week!

*The participants to the Donkey ride wrote with washable markers on the tablecloth. That way, the tablecloth could be washed and used again and again.

Note: None of the photographs were taken at the local park.
