Easy Chicken Breasts in Mushroom Sauce

Rocky Horror

This afternoon we attended Richard O’Brien’s Rocky Horror performance by the local Reston Community Players.

In the show’s program there is a note on audience participation. It states, you are allowed to call out and use appropriate props. However, we were advised not to throw toast, frank furters, rice, confetti, use water guns or open flames. Those items make clean up difficult. Ok, that is simple enough for me since I didn’t bring anything to toss about. You could also purchase a small bag of “approved” items to throw. However, I am not sure what was in the bag.

There was a lot of audience call outs during this performance. However, the only thing I saw people using was the lights from their cell phones. No rice, toast, or super soakers. Note, everyone in the theater was well behaved.

The movie dates back to 1975 so it is now at its 50th anniversary showing.

Previously I had watched the movie on TV but never attended a showing in a movie theater. Apparently, this movie has a lot of fans who like to show up at the midnight showings around Halloween.

OK, the photograph I am using is one attached to a recipe. At this point I am adding the rice to the dish.

However, in the movie rice is thrown by the audience at the beginning to mimic wedding guests. Throwing rice is a symbol of good luck to the couple. I read that one should not toss the rice at the stage or at other viewers. That’s not polite, right?

Toast is tossed about when they have a toast. Toilet paper is unfurled when they talk about Dr. Scott as in Scott’s toilet paper.

The time spent in the theater went quickly as there wasn’t a dull moment with lots of songs. The actors had great voices, and they had a small backup band on the stage.

Ending Notes on the Rocky Horror Show

Although I was probably one of the few people in the audience that never viewed the movie at the theater, it was a fun outing.

I would definitely return to this Reston location for another show.

After 50 years, I was glad I finally got to see the show in a theater setting and why fans love this movie.

Long Live B rated Science Fiction Movies!
