Project Organization

My coffee table is a “paper mess” so it was time to get busy and do some project organization.

OK, I know one project that was done early last year that is still in a folder on my coffee table. That’s the one I am going to work with today.

Why Organize Project Information?

First, I look throughout the project folder and find that not only do I have paperwork, but I have some flooring samples.

I have lots of information in that project folder such as project costs, installation data, telephone numbers of installers, and a booklet on the care of the flooring. I even have the original flooring sample I ordered online since they had none in the store. If I ever need to reorder additional plank flooring, I have all the numbers I need.

That flooring sample is very important. Think of the difficulty I would have faced trying to guestimate the new flooring colors. Flooring is too expensive to leave things up the chance, so you need that sample. This way, I matched up the present tile flooring with the new planking flooring. I think it turned out great!

I even ran off the information of the photograph I took in the store and was presently on my computer’s desktop.

Plastic Document Holders in Project Organization

For this project, I am using a Plastic Document Holder. Poly Document Holders are found in many sizes and in many stores. I like these folders because they are big enough to hold everything. Plus, things don’t stick out of the sides making it easy to lose receipts, etc.

The plastic document holder I purchased is letter sized, with a single pocket, and snap closure. Some document holders are closed with a toggle and string.

I, also, like the fact they are see through plastic.

It is easy to write with permanent magic marker on the outside of the envelope what is in it.

Project Organization Closing Notes

So, as I finish my cup of coffee, I know I have completed at least one organization project.

Here is what is important, you’ll never know when you will need that information for a repair, etc.

For example, I have already gone back into my file to recontact the installers who didn’t finish an end baseboard piece as expected.

So, I hope I have given you at least one helpful hint of what to do with the paperwork once your project is completed.

Now, to get back to that coffee table to see what else I can organize.
