Potato Chips

Potato Chips

I picked up a couple bags of Savoursmiths Chips which were advertised as luxurious hand cooked British Potato Chips. On the bag it stated they are gluten free, vegetarian, and non GMO. What really caught my eye was the Tusk Organization advertisement on the bag’s front with an elephant’s head on a human body.

About the Potato Chips

So, apparently these chips come in a variety of flavors and are made in United Kingdom. We have lots of potato chips available in the United States, so I was curious about the Somerset Cheddar and Shallot flavor. These chips appear to be slightly thicker than the chips I’m used to. If you look closely, you will notice that the potato skin is left on. Apparently, this keeps more nutrients in the chips.

Potato Chips and the Tusk Organization

Then, I looked up the 2024 Tusk charity mentioned on the front of the bag. It is actually registered with the Charity Commission for England and Whales.

I enjoyed looking at the Tusk Organization’s web site as they have things like charity information, items for sale, and even a children’s coloring page. Tusk began in 1990 and it helps with wildlife conservation efforts across Africa. One point stated they empower local African communities with environmental education hoping to achieve long-term solutions. But, of course, they seem to be into a lot of conservation efforts.

Taste Test

As I mentioned previously, the chips have a bit of the potato peel on the edge. They have a lot flavor but they also taste a little salty to me. To be honest, I don’t believe I’ve ever tried Somerset Cheddar cheese and not sure about the taste of a shallot. So, I’m probably not the best person to judge the flavor of these chips.

Ending Comments on the Potato Chips

For some reason, these chips were discontinued in the farmers market I shop at. However I see you can always buy them online or perhaps check other area stores for the brand. On their comments page, people really seem to enjoy the Rosemary flavor.

In conclusion, I liked the chips and am always impressed when a company picks out a charity to help out.

So, enjoy your Favorite Snack!
