Outdoor Holiday Decorating

I decided to do a quick blog on outdoor holiday decorating in my yard.

Electrical Lights on Boxwoods

Since my boxwoods are so small, I didn’t go all out with my lights. I only put a small strand of lights on them.

I always like the colored lights, so my shrubs looks like they have jelly beans of light. The electrical lights on these shrubs are made both for indoor or outdoor use.

Since I don’t have an electrical outlet in the front of my house, I had to run an all weather electrical cord to the back yard.

My lights are all on remote controls which you can buy at the hardware store. I like the option of not going outside to turn off the lights at night but only clicking the remote.

The photograph on the right shows those same shrubs at dusk.

Last year the stores ran out of the remote controls, so this year I wisely got them early in the season as soon as I saw they were out.

Garden Gate Wreath and Outdoor Holiday Decorating

This year I decorated my garden gate with an all-weather wreath which I hung over a couple of the fence posts.

To make this wreath I started with a faux pine wreath.

I added plastic red and purple bulbs, and a few green hued snowflakes which I wired in placed with green floral wire. The bulbs were purchased second hand at a greatly reduced price. I added a bright red all weather bow to the bottom.

To hang the wreath, I used a bit of floral wire doubled over to give it more strength and looped it over a couple of the fence boards.

I’m matching the garden gate wreath with my front door wreath with a few decorating variations.

Front Door Wreath

On the front door wreath I have added some vintage looking gold-tone bulbs which operate on a couple of batteries. I hid the on/off box in the greenery above the bow.

This wreath again has the matching plastic red and purple bulbs on it.

I also added some white faux poinsettia blooms and golden berries sprigs.

I used a matching red all-weather bow to tie the two wreaths in.

Ending Notes on Outdoor Holiday Decorating Blog

It goes to show you, that you can decorate the front of your yard with spending hours doing it or too much money.
