I decided to try something new, and picked up an Orangedew Melon at my local grocery store. Orange Dew melons are a cross between a honeydew and muskmelon. In fact, I had difficulty finding much about this new melon until I googled the product number on the tag or #4327. I’m going to make my Orangedew melon into one word, but I have seen it printed sometimes as two words. This melon is also grown in California.
This photograph shows a whole uncut Orangedew melon. The size is slightly larger than a cantaloupe but smaller than a green Honeydew melon.
Taste Testing of Orangedew Melon
So, what did I like about this melon?
First thing, it is easier to slice than a cantaloupe. This melon looks more like the outside of a honeydew melon and has a round shape. However, the flesh is a nice orange color very similar to what cantaloupe flesh looks like. The Orangedew melon’s flesh is softer and I think slightly sweeter than a cantaloupe.
I made a fruit salad with my Orangedew melon and, also, added some sliced strawberries. This went nicely with my evening dinner meal.
The Orangedew Melon is served with sliced strawberries. Note: I’m using the photo food lens on my phone, but I’m not sure I like it.
Ending Notes on Today’s Blog
There really isn’t much to write about on this new melon but to say I would buy it again.
Of course, I saved the outer peels from this melon for my trash can composter. With the hot days we have been having, things quickly decay. I’ve also been adding a handful of leaves we have in another bin.
Well, it’s always nice to try something new; a new coffee shop, a new shopping center, or a new sweet melon #4327.
