OK, technically I missed blogging about National Donut Day since this year it fell on June 6, 2025, (yesterday). However, I say better late than never, so here we go blogging about a sweet treat–the donut.
Of course, we grabbed a couple of donuts to celebrate. Note: I ate the chocolate iced donut, and my partner ordered the strawberry sprinkle donut, yummy! We actually got rained out of a local concert we were attending so we were looking for something else to do. Remembering it was National Donut Day, we drove to the nearest donut shop which was still open.

History of National Donut Day
I was a little surprised that the history of National Donut Day goes back to World War I.
According to my online research, a doctor in the military wanted to brighten up his patients’ day, so, he purchased eight dozen donuts to give out. His efforts were noted.
A fundraiser was started working with the Salvation Army serving donuts and coffee to the military. The first of these social centers was located in France.
Since the majority of the social center’s workers were women, they became known at “Doughnut Dollies.”
Ending Notes
Today, first of all, a lot of places selling donuts had special offering on their donuts. For instance, one place offered a free donut with the purchase of a drink. We actually paid a little over $4 for our two iced donuts without drinks or other purchases.
I was happy to learn a little more about the holiday and who doesn’t love a donut? Or unless, of course, you are a donut hole lover? You can also buy a box of those.
Happy Belated National Donut Day!
