Music, Refreshments, and Poinsettias

Yesterday we attended Merrifield Garden’s Holiday Open House and enjoyed music, refreshments, and poinsettias. The event was so nice, my companion jokingly said they should charge admission.

It was obvious that a lot of thought and effort went into the planning of this holiday open house.

Cookies, punch, popcorn, and coffee were served.

In particular, I stopped to hear the musician who played her guitar and sang holiday tunes to the shoppers. She has a lovely voice, and I wanted to feature her in today’s blog. However, we rarely show individuals, so this photograph is taken from behind.

Holiday Items at the Garden Center

The garden center is packed full of holiday decorations, holiday trees, live wreaths and garlands.

The fresh green wreaths are displayed on a table. In front of the table are red winterberries.

What can be more festive than a grouping of red and white holiday poinsettias with hanging green ferns in the background?

What Else is New at Music, Refreshments, and Poinsettias Blog?

There were a couple of employees making fresh advent wreaths. They used the below floral form to add fresh greenery and lastly the candles. There is a sign stating they will custom make a wreath for you.

This is the beginning of the making of an Advent wreath.

I enjoyed looking at the “honey” holiday display. The glass vegetable ornaments are interesting to look at. I, also, thought the glass garden bug decorations are unique.

Lastly, I noted this old fashion TV set with the rabbit ears. Remember you had to adjust those metal TV ears so that the program you were watching would come in clearer?

The holiday scene in this vintage TV set is an actual mini train set which runs around the track and goes through the snowy tunnel.

Ending Thoughts on Music, Refreshments, and Poinsettias

I picked the right day to pick up that load of firewood at the garden center and I also noted all the holiday happenings at the open house.

I love those branches of red Winterberry used in decorations and think the plant would make an awesome shrub. The Winterberry holly is a deciduous holly and is native to Virginia. However, it might be a little too large for the area I would like to plant one in. I already planted two male holly plants out back, so I have a start on that. More thought needed on this one.

So, Merrifield Garden Center thank you once again for the lovely Holiday Open House. Enjoyed the music, cookies and punch, and all the wonderful holiday decorations.

A Big Thank You to Merrifield Garden Center for allowing me to take photographs and to blog about their awesome store.
