Kitchen and Dinning Room Remodeling Project

Excitement is in the air because we will be blogging about an upcoming kitchen and dinning room remodeling project.

On our blog today, we have posted a few photographs of some of the purchased items already delivered for the project.

A great looking modern kitchen and dinning room is the goal for this couple who loves to cook and entertain.

The owners are going with a crisp-clean modern white and gray color combination. The new kitchen cabinets will be a shade of white with a gray and white quartz countertop.

They are currently reviewing different shades of gray paint for the walls. They have also picked out bright, white subway tiles for the backsplash.

The above photograph on the left shows a new dark gray and white wooden dinning room table. The chair seats are painted black and the set has a matching bench. The dinning room table has a small drawer on the side which will store items which are frequently used at the table.

The photograph on the right, shows a new refrigerator-freezer combination with a shiny silver finish.

Kitchen and Dinning Room Remodeling Update: 6-15-2021

The remodeling of the kitchen has started this week.

This is a before photograph taken of the kitchen prior to any work being done. The kitchen had dark brown cabinets and a dark brown/silver tile backsplash. The kitchen also had a low hanging fan/light combination.

The below next two photographs shows some of the work. The old cabinets and counter top have been removed as well as the appliances. The low hanging ceiling fan/light combination has been removed and will be replaced with a plain light with a black frame. The removal of the wavy accent board over the window will also allow more light into the kitchen.

Kitchen and Dinning Room Remodeling Project Update – Sample Paint Colors: 6-20-2021

I spoke with one of our remodelers today regarding the selection of a gray paint color for the walls.

It is often difficult to bring home a small paint sample from the store and try to see if the color will work on your wall. It, also, might not be convenient to bring home a sample container of paint and proceed to paint a small area of the wall.

Our remodeler instead went to the Benjamin Moore Paint Store and ordered a very large peel and stick sample to place on the wall. They have samples in every color. The sample measures a large 9″ x 14.75″ so you can get a good feel for how it will look on the wall. Benjamin Moore samples use real paint and digital prints for 100% accuracy.

Each paint or wall paper sample costs $5.95 or you can go with a collection of five samples for $21. The company groups the samples together with such names as Fresh Pink, Timeless, or Delightful Beiges. They also offer next day shipping.

The best part is you just peel and remove the large paint sample when you are done. If the paint color or wall paper does not work, then you have not damaged your walls.

I, also, noticed that Home Depo offers a non-damaging, adhesive backing color sample measuring 12″ x 12″.

What a great idea to purchase one of the large peel/stick samples to see if you like the look. It’s too expensive to repaint an entire room if you don’t like the color or if it doesn’t work with your curtains, carpeting or furniture.

The workers have begun to make more progress with the kitchen.

The photograph below shows the lighter flooring being installed in the kitchen and dinning room. The edges of the floor need to be finished yet. The lighter flooring and the cabinets match nicely. Deuce is checking out the new flooring.

I’ve also noticed a new white cabinet in the photograph.

Our homeowner has recently gone out and purchased door handles/knobs for the kitchen cabinets. Not an easy task when items are not in the proper bins at the big box store.

We are getting nearer to completing the project.

The counter top people have been in to laser measure the quartz counter tops for the new kitchen. A white-single kitchen sink has also been ordered.

Our remodeler has been busy finding the perfect centerpiece for her new dinning room table, see below photograph.

She selected a modern yet rustic looking wooden box with rope handles on two ends for the centerpiece. There are five sections to the box. Each section had a clear vase in it. Yesterday she found a selection of small white artificial flowers to add to the vases. To achieve this look, she added three stems to each vase.

The great thing about this centerpiece is that you can change out the flowers to match the seasons. Think how pretty this will look with small poinsettias in each vase for the Christmas holidays.

The latest report on this kitchen remodeling project is that the sink and new quartz counter tops are installed. If you look closely, there is a slight hint of gray marbling to them. The is look is very fresh and clean. However, the faucet has not been hooked up so the sink is not usable yet. The tile/backsplash also needs to be installed. The white kitchen cabinets have dark colored handles.

It also looks like the dinning room is nearing completion. The new table and rug has been installed. I also noticed the new modern ceiling light over the dinning room table. A couple of new pieces of art work are on the gray walls including a white window frame mirror and a piece of window frame art in the shape of an arched window.

New window blinds will also be purchased to match the new lighter color scheme of the dinning room.

As for time frame, I believe we are about a month into the project.

So now we are at our favorite part of a remodeling project . . .the end. The kitchen and dinning room turned out fabulously and I’m sure it is a joy to cook in a kitchen so bright and fresh looking.

The dinning room also turned out stunningly and is ready to host those every day dinners or special events.

The project is done except for a few small details such as buying some kitchen curtains or a valance.

The cabinet handles in the kitchen match the dark kitchen faucet. A matching set of clear canisters from the old kitchen was placed on the new kitchen counter. Ironically, the old clear glass canisters match the new kitchen perfectly.

A bright light has replaced the previous low hanging fan and there is also a new light fixture over the kitchen sink

This bonus area gives the kitchen additional storage space.

This counter needs a glass cake stand or perhaps a glass container for pastries, (or even doggie treats).

Below are photographs taken from the remodeled dinning room area. To make the two rooms seem seamless, the same gray paint color was continued into the dinning room area.

I really like the way the new five-bulb light fixture illuminates the entire table. It also matches the new five-flower vase centerpiece.

Quite a bit of thought went into this project along with careful selection of matching and contrasting elements.

The end result is a picture perfect kitchen and dinning room.

I think our owners are going to be happy with the results for a long time.

The new dinning room also had a change in blinds to match the new gray/white theme.

To all our Readers thinking of remodeling, the end results should make you smile.

I found out that the little white tin on the bonus cabinet area reads, “Bone Appetit” and contains Deuces’ dog treats.

A Warm Thank You to that Special Couple for sharing their photographs on today’s blog and allowing us to come along on their remodeling journey.
