Today I wasn’t expecting to visit a King Arthur Baking Pop-up Shop in Fairfax Corner, but that is exactly what happened. At first, my companion thought it was a new coffee shop and liked the name. However, to our great surprise it is a baking store complete with bags of flour, a variety of boxed baking mixes, pans, flavorings, oven mitts, baking sets, cookie cutters, cookbooks, decorative sprinkles and all related things.
I spoke with Catherine, the store manager, who said this pop-up store is scheduled for operation through July. She also gave me permission to photograph the store but with no customers present in the photos. Sure, I’ve done that many a times. The store was very busy, so I worked around the customers taking my photos.
What Caught My Attention in the King Arthur Baking Store
Since there were so many things in the store, I am going to blog about a few things that caught my attention.
Let’s see, with the holidays around the corner, I liked these realistic looking butter stick ornaments. Each glass ornament is hung from a gold string. The butter sticks also have markings for cooking just like real butter sticks. What a cute gift idea for that baker in your family.
These ornaments actually look like real butter sticks.
Of course, a lot of these items would, also, make good hostess gifts if you are going to any holiday parties.
A tableful of mugs, oven mitts, dog bone cookie cutters, etc.
Brief History of the King Arthur Baking Company
I checked the online site for a bit of history on this company and found in 2020, they changed their name from the King Arthur Flour Company to King Arthur Baking Company, Inc. The change reflects the fact they produce a variety of products plus they have a cooking school. The logo was, also, changed to a wheat-themed crown.
The company was founded in Boston, Massachusetts in 1790, by Henry Wood. At first, the flour was imported from England. Then the company begun milling flour in the 1820’s from American grown wheat. The Erie Canal helped with transportation of the wheat.
In 1896, the flour first got the name of King Arthur Flour from that noble knight of days gone by. The flagship store is located in Norwich, Vermont.
Closing Notes
Let’s see, in the store I found a Deluxe Dog Biscuit kit, Holiday Cookie Puzzle, Holiday Folk Art Oven Mitts, and Holiday Scone Cutters. Their online store, also, sells t-shirts, ball caps, Slice and Bake Cookie Dough Keeper Sets, and a Vintage Ornament Cakelette Pan.
Their cakelette pans are quite interesting in that if one pours cake batter into them, out comes the shape of the pan. The above photo shows houses in a small village. Think of how cute those small houses would look iced, decorated and plated for the holidays.
All in all, I really enjoyed the shopping experience at the new pop-up store, and I hope it becomes a permanent fixture at Fairfax Corner.
What did Farmhouse Magic Blog Buy!
Of course, I couldn’t resist these bright prep bowls with the “In the Farmyard” design. The patterns are so farm like–one chicken, sheep, goat, and pig bowl. The bowls are very sturdy made more on the line of a mixing bowl. They can be used more than for prep bowls. I’m thinking of using them as dessert or snack bowls.
They were on sale plus I signed up for their repeat customer discount of 5% off.
Love this purchase and this new store!
A Special Thank You to Catherine, the friendly store manager, at the King Arthur Baking Company for allowing me to photograph and to blog about their new pop-up baking store.
