Homegrown Jumbo Sized Cucumber

Tonight for dinner we ate this jumbo sized cucumber which was grown in our garden.

I sliced it up and arranged it on a dinner sized plate.

What was nice about this cucumber was that it tasted fresh not old or overgrown.

What’s our secret for huge cucumbers?  I would have to say warm sunny days, lots of water and preparing the soil ahead of planting.

This soil was loaded with kitchen waste scrap material–coffee grounds, orange peels, stale bread, etc.

The kitchen waste scraps, in turn, attracted earth worms who made the soil even better.

This summer I’m enjoying my garden harvest.  I have had lots of tomatoes which I have already frozen and, of course, jumbo cucumbers.  Perhaps I should think about making pickles?

I’m thinking about planting a fall garden.

If you are growing a fall garden, drop Farmhouse Magic Blog a note telling us what type of plants will you be growing.

Thank you for the nice comment on our blog relating to the Acetylene Gas Generating Station from the 1900’s. It still is our most read blog story. Stay safe and take care.

  2. Junko,
Thanks for reading our blog. We use WordPress for our blog. I absolutely love, love, love it! It’s easy to learn and use. As far as security issues go, that’s not my forte, but I do have a firewall with my blog. It helps a lot. Also, be careful of what you post on your blog. Take care and I hope you can get those minor security issues worked out.
