Today, we decided to take a trip to Maryland to have lunch at Jimmy Joy’s Log Cabin Inn. We had first heard of the establishment when talking to friends at a casino who suggested it for lunch.
In checking the restaurant’s website, it was noted they are celebrating 20 years in business from 2004 to 2024. It is located on Millstone Drive in Hancock, Maryland.
History of Jimmy Joy’s Log Cabin
Going back in time, the cabin was built in 1938, and it was a stop for travelers along the Old Route 40, currently interstate 70. It was known for having good food and friendly faces. In 1959, it was moved 1,500 feet from the south side to the present location to accommodate interstate 70. You can see a photograph on their website of workers actually digging under the floorboards and moving the log cabin building.
Over the years, it looks like the log cabin has been pretty well maintained. It is currently owned by Jimmy and Crystal Joy.
Our Meal at Jimmy Joy’s Log Cabin
The online site suggested reservations, which we had. We were immediately seated in the back room. Sage, our waitress, was friendly and helpful. She often checked back during our lunch refilling our iced tea glasses.
Truely, the place feels comfortable like a good fit and reminds us of home.
Let’s see, we ordered two prime rib sandwiches with fries and coleslaw. The sandwiches came with au jus dipping sauce. The photograph is of the deluxe sandwich which came with sautéed mushrooms, onions and green peppers; with fresh lettuce and chopped tomatoes.
Also, I might add, the French fries tasted freshly made and not frozen.
So, our companion also ordered a steak salad.
All in all, we enjoyed the meal, conversation, and didn’t feel rushed to finish the meal.
Because Jimmy Joy’s is apparently known for its fresh seafood meals like clams, fresh shrimp, blue crabs and snow crab legs, I wanted a sea food photo for today’s blog.
So, the super nice couple at one table over allowed me to photograph their blue crabs. In fact, he even straightened up one crab so I would get a better photograph. Thanks so much!
Ending Notes on Jimmy Joy’s Lob Cabin Inn
In closing, it was a bit of drive, but it was nice getting out of our urban setting for a good lunch, good conversation, and friendly people at a down-home establishment.
