Actually, I love decorating and with an empty bedroom, I needed some great furniture at great prices, so here goes the Inexpensive Bedroom Decorating blog. Actually, I don’t want to spend too much money or time on this project, so I got creative with my decorating. Also, I don’t want to refinish any furniture; there isn’t time for that.
ReStore Empty Bedroom Pieces
So, we took a trip to the local ReStore shop to see if they had anything we could use. It’s true, the bedroom is empty except for a boxspring and mattress on the floor. After strolling through the furniture sections, we came across this nice small desk. It is well made and quite heavy. It has four storage drawers in it. Although it is a little hard to see, the drawers are colored maroon, black, dark green, and bone white. There is a little wear on the desk but nothing major.

However, what is unique about this desk, is that the colorful desk drawers have plastic inserts to change out of the color of the desk drawers. Apparently, you can take off the knobs, replace the plastic slats and then screw the knobs back on. Since we both liked this desk, now we had to find some other furniture to go with it.
Our second task was to find a chair that would fit under the desk. Although we liked the chair in the above photograph, the handles wouldn’t allow for it to be pushed under the desk, so we didn’t buy it.

These colorful plastic slats came with the desk. This allows for more colors in decorating. Also, no hard to match wood types.
After switching out a few chairs, we found one we liked. It is a black, without handles, slightly padded leather chair with leather encased legs. The seat of the chair is slightly worn looking but it is comfortable and matches, so it will work for the time being.
Our third piece of furniture is a bedside table large enough for a lamp, reading materials, etc. The maroon one we picked out is extremely well made and has a nice drawer for storage.
What we Paid?
So, we both liked idea of multiple colors, that way it would be easy to match other things in the room. The desk was too large to go in our car, so we picked that up at lunchtime. ReStore staff volunteers helped us load it into our car from the loading dock. I, believe, you have a week to pick it up.
Here’s what we paid so far.
- Small Wood Desk with Changeable drawer inserts – $25.
- Wooden Maroon Colored bedside table with one storage drawer – $15
- Black encased slightly padded leather chair with wear – $8
So, it looks like our total so far is $48. with tax.
Accent Pillows
What bedroom is complete without a few accent pillows? I actually “shopped” for these in the spare bedroom. If you remember from an earlier blog, I found two new West Elm off-white accent pillowcases secondhand. I added new pillow inserts to these. Also, I thought this multicolored, but matching, Pottery Barn lumbar shaped pillow would work, too.
Yesterday, I washed out all the pillowcases and dusted out the feather inserts, so all would be fresh and clean.
OK, this is at no cost since the three pillows are being repurposed for the new bedroom.

Ending Notes on Inexpensive Bedroom Decorating
Today we are going to deliver everything to the home with the empty bedroom.
I loved all the pieces we selected from the ReStore shop thinking everything should work. The room is small, so hopefully, the desk will be OK.
Once we get everything in place, I’m going to order a new soft bedspread. I’m thinking probably in a dark olive-green color. Perhaps a bedside lamp is also needed but not sure on that one,
First, to get the furniture in and see what needs to be done yet. I’ll keep my Readers posted.
Happy Decorating from Farmhouse Magic Blog.com!
