Well, here we are back again talking about saving the world, recycling, and I need that (item).
Here at Farmhouse Magic, if you’ve been reading our blog for awhile, you know we recycle, reuse and make do, (to save money).
Today’s blog is going to talk about a recent shopping trip to a secondhand store buying what I needed instead of what I wanted.
I Need That Shopping Trip
So, what did FMB buy on that needed shopping trip?
First of all, I only spent $5.04 for all my purchases and that includes taxes.
Since I’m a blogger, I use a bunch of 3 x 5 inch cards. The cards come in handy while doing my online research and for jotting down notes. I saw this package of color coded ruled index card of 100 3 x 5 inch cards. The package had never been opened. It was marked for .50 cents. This is something I need, so I picked it up. Retail price for the cards is probably closer to $3.19.
Secondly, I pick up a package of colorful party favor pencils. I paid $1 for the package but one pencil is missing. A complete package of 12 pencils sells for $6.97. These fun pencils are great for giving away instead of edible treats for Trick or Treat.
The small black notebook is of perfect size to fit in my phone pocketbook. I need a small notebook to get names of people in photos or other details. I currently am the volunteer editor for two volunteer online newspapers and I take lots of photographs. It was priced at only .25 cents. I’m guesstimating it is worth about $1 when new.
The second to the last item last item I purchased, is a new popup/collapsible red fabric storage cube with a pull out tab. Most of these are sold in sets. This one measures about 10 1/2 x 10 1/2 inches on all sides. I paid $2 for it probably worth about $7.
Meditation Minerva Hanging from Greece
Most interesting of all, is the small replica of the Meditation Minerva hanging at the Museum of Acropolis of Athens in Greece. This item is under the notebook, but don’t believe I can show it online. It seems to be made from a ceramic material resembling copper bronze greening on dark gray. The figure wears a helmet and is leaning on her spear. There is a brown rawhide string attached to the two holes for hanging. On the back is the original paperwork glued to the back. It also has a made in Greece stamped on the lower front bottom. It is approximately 1/2 inch thick and is approximately 5 1.2 by 3 1/4 inches long. This souvenir from Greece dates back to the 1970’s and has one small chip in it. I paid $1 for it. Retail value is probably closer to $14.
Ending Notes
OK, I must confess the hanging of Meditation Minerva is something I definitely didn’t need. I thought it is so beautiful and unusual I had to buy it. But when thinking about it, since it is worth more than a dollar, I’m glad I picked it up. This could even be used as a one of kind gift.
So, the calculations on my shopping trip, as previously stated, was $5.04 for items worth $32.16.
Happy Savings to Me!
