Hot Wire Cutting of Styrofoam

Hot Wire Cutter

In particular, I found this Hot Wire Cutter to be of interest. First of all, it is a bonus to crafters. If you ever tried to cut a piece of Styrofoam it can be a daunting task. If cut with a regular serrated knife, you have to clean up a mess of white bits.

I’m actually putting this blog under faux food because I think this tool could be a help to anyone who crafts and needs to cut Styrofoam.

One time at the vintage farmhouse, I decided to adjust a piece of Styrofoam which was made into a pie.

I hacked the edge of the Styrofoam with a serrated knife, and the bits went flying all over the farmhouse. In the end, I had to call our farmhouse historian, get the vacuum cleaner out and clean things up a bit. Whooa, what a mess!

In the below photo, this person is using a hot wire cutter to make a sign out of Styrofoam. To operate it, it is plugged in to an electrical source until hot.

The heated tip makes fast work for cutting or the Styrofoam into precise shapes or letters.

The below person is making a sign using a block of packing Styrofoam. What a great idea for reusing this as it usually goes into our trash can.

Ending Notes

OK, I really like this gadget and probably would use it if I were planning on doing more crafts.

Also, I know a person who is using scrap Styrofoam to insult a room from noise and needs to cut precise pieces. Actually, I wonder if this is working on blanketing the noise. I’ll have to check back with this person.

Anyway, this tool is easy to use and does the job. In checking online, there are several types and various prices available.
