Harvesting the Fall Lettuce

Today we are harvesting our fall lettuce crop. We only have one small row of lettuce, but it was enough for a dinner time treat to add to our chicken burgers.

It is a hot day to harvest the lettuce.

Some of the lettuce crop has already bolted, or gone to seed, due to the heat.

The photograph below shows a colander full of red leaf lettuce leaves fresh from the garden.

This particular crop grew from lettuce seeds. The soil was enriched with Bumper Crop soil additive. In the fall, there are a variety of fresh vegetables and herbs which will grow nicely before the cold weather arrives.

I see a couple of weeds in the lettuce which be taken out when it is washed.

Using Kitchen Scissors

We used a pair of orange handled kitchen scissors to harvest the lettuce.

I, also use these kitchen shears to harvest the different herbs we have growing on the patio.

Be sure to wipe and clean those kitchen shears after harvesting or else they will start to rust.

Harvesting the fall lettuce crops makes one wish for fresh vegetables.

Ending Notes on Harvesting the Fall Lettuce Blog

Fall time garden, lots of work weeding but great rewards in good eating.

In the fall, fresh harvest is harder to come by so fresh lettuce is a real treat for all.

It is even harder to say good-bye to the garden for another year until spring sun’s rays warms the earth again.
