Today I was at the store wearing one of my hats. When checking out, the saleslady happened to see my hat and wondered what hiking on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon was like. She saw the same wording embroidered on my hat. She said if she was going down the Grand Canyon, she would check her donkey’s hoofs to make sure they could make the journey safely. Then she would also make sure that the donkeys had been given food and water so they wouldn’t go too fast to get the end. We had a laugh about that as she packed my groceries.
I wondered what I should tell her about hiking the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. That it was quite an adventure in survival? That we encountered danger while at staggering heights? Or that the canyon was absolutely breathtaking when the sun set? As long as I was telling the story, I could also tell her about the nasty rattlesnakes and scorpions that abounded in the area.
Instead, I told her it was only a souvenir hat. I’ll leave hiking of the North Rim of the Grand Canyon for another vacation.
