On the way home from the shopping center, I stopped to take a photograph of this Giant Halloween Cat on a neighborhood lawn.
This cool black cat inflatable sports yellow toe nails, and is wearing a purple and orange top hat. His odd toothy grin looks slightly sinister. However, his eyes have an odder hypnotic swirl to them.
Brief History of Inflatables
Inflatables were discovered purely by chance by John Scurlock, a mechanical engineer, in 1959. He is known for inventing the safety air cushion used by fire and rescue workers to catch people jumping from buildings during fires or from heights.
Scurlock was working on an inflatable cover for a tennis court. He noted employees jumping on this tennis cover for fun.
He then got the idea for inflatables.
Inflatables use strong PVC or vinyl and nylon for the shell. Then an electrical power blower fills the form and keeps it filled with air during its use. Stakes are used to hold the inflatable in position. This, also, keeps it from blowing away with strong wind gusts.
Because this Halloween Cat is in front lawn of a home along with two dragons, and a pumpkin octopus, it really makes me think of the season.
So what makes inflatables popular is that they are easy to transport and to store once the holiday is over.
Giant Halloween Cat & Other Inflatables
Common inflatables are slides, jumping castles, boxing rings, water pools, rafts, basketball toss games, etc. But the shapes and types of inflatables is virtually endless.
Inflatables were introduced to the US market around 2000 and they have been very popular ever since.
Children love jumping bubbles at the fairs and birthday parties. Everyone also loves those large floating pool rafts.
Keep Safe this Halloween Season and Enjoy those Inflatables. Happy Halloween!
