Clue to Find the Frog – Fenton Art Glass Company
If you’ve been a faithful Farmhouse Magic Blog reader from the start, I have a clue to give you regarding the About Us Page.
If you look closely at the chicks and eggs from my Spring table decor, you will notice the purple colored glass frog. The frog is hand painted with delicate flowers and is about the size and shape of a real toad. The purplish/blue frog was actually signed by D. Frederick and is a Fenton Art Glass frog figurine from 2003. The Fenton Glass Company started decorating glass in 1905. In 1907 they began to make their own glass products to decorate. They are known for their colors and styles of artistic glass products such as carnival and hobnail glass. Fenton Art Glass Company was influenced by Tiffany and Steuben. Fenton glass items are loved by collectors. The Fenton Art Glass Company closed its doors in 2011. The Fenton Art Property was then sold in 2017 to the Wood County Schools.
However, I believe, there was still a subset of the company that produced glass beads for jewelry which was, also, sold off.
Currently, the frog figurine acts a paperweight in my living room. It was purchased from a second hand store for approximately $3.99. I see one that is similar is being sold on line for about $45.
Froggie was expensive, in junk store prices, but well worth it.
