I found myself with a package of expired pita breads, past date peanut butter, and sunflower seeds from the beginning of the pandemic. Not wanting to toss any food out, I decided to make some wild bird treats for my feathered friends.
Making bird treats was easy to do, first I cut the pita bread into half. I spread the peanut butter on each pita half. Then I sprinkled the sunflower seeds on the peanut butter.
I then loaded up my pita snacks into a plastic food storage bin and took a walk behind my house.
It’s a perfect day for a walk in the woods.
Finished Wild Bird Snacks Bird Treat on Log Hanging Bird Treats on Tree LimbI remember my Mom would always feed the wild birds.
She would take a big tray of food out for the birds and they would all start to follow her and flit around until she put the tray down.
I found the pita bread fit nicely over the branches and the sunflower seeds were held in place by the peanut butter.
I didn’t want all the bird snacks in one area so I continued my walk.
Nicely Hanging Bird Treats Wooded AreaIt wasn’t long before, I was out of bird treats and started my short walk home.
On my way out of the woods, who should I see but a large squirrel. The squirrel was nearing in on the bird snacks.
I just hope he leaves a few snacks for the birds.

Update on 12-12-2020 – I went back into the woods to see if the birds found the bird treats. Every single bird treat was gone.
