Farmhouse – After the Holidays
The farmhouse technically closes down for the season at the end of December. However, if it is a nice day, weather-wise, docents are allowed to come in and open the farmhouse for visitors.
I went in with another docent to help take down and put away all the indoor holiday decorations and tree for another year.
New Items at 2019 Farmhouse Holiday Exhibit were:
1. We talked about making mincemeat pies and had a recipe on the table for people to look at.
2. The farmhouse had three new strands of faux popcorn on the artificial tree. Apparently on Christmas eve, they used a big iron skillet to pop the popcorn and then string it together.
3. The vintage bell ornament was donated this year for the tree.
4. Three new faux tangerines were added to the stocking making items.
5. Faux nuts, (almonds), were purchased and added to the the nut bowl. (Sorry we can not keep real nuts in the farmhouse or it would draw mice to the our storage bins.)
6. First showing of the faux chocolate heart cookies.
To Sum Up – Year 2019
We had a great year as docents at the farmhouse. Not sure what the total visitor count was but it is always in the thousands.
It is always sad to take down the holiday items because that means, our docent tours are also done with for the season.
But not to worry, come warmer days in the spring, we will open again the doors and welcome visitors to the charming-historic farmhouse.
