Dinner Roll Mix

Back to the kitchen, with today’s blog on making a King Arthur Dinner Roll Mix.

First of all, the directions were clear, and the dinner roll mix was easy to make. Following the directions I added 2 tablespoons of softened butter, 1 cup of warm water, and the yeast packet to the mix.

I liked the fact that the yeast packet is included since I’m not sure I have an extra one around the house.

What Happened?

So, I didn’t follow the directions exactly as I initially allowed the rolls to raise too long. I went out for coffee and forgot I was making rolls. Then when I rolled the dough into small balls, some of the balls were larger than other ones.

I used the correct sized pan of 9 inches by 13 inches, but the pan was very old and a little rusty. I lined the pan with a piece of foil.

In the end, the rolls were slightly overbaked. Because you guessed it, I got distracted with other projects and forgot about things in the oven.

Ending Comments on the Dinner Roll Mix

The main thing about making anything is how it tastes, right? The rolls were tasty when eaten with a little bit of real butter.

OK, making these special rolls requires a bit more of my attention. For some reason, I thought the rolls should have risen more than they did. I have my house heat on low right now. It’s too hot during the day for the heat but too cold not to have heat at night.

So, what’s a baker to do. I should have somehow placed the rising dough in a warmer location. That would have had a better effect on the rising dough.

But even with all my baking errors, my family enjoyed the rolls.

In fact, I am going to visit the King Arthur pop up store today and pick up a few more baking mixes.

Happy Baking Everyone!
