Delicious Thanksgiving Chocolate Mocha Cake

This delicious chocolate mocha cake was made from a store brand boxed devil’s food chocolate cake mix.  It looks like you spent a lot of time and money making it though.

The cake’s flavor is enhanced with coffee and coffee flavored liqueur imported from Mexico.

The top is decorated with melted chocolate, candy corn and candy pumpkins.

Ingredients

  • 1 Boxed Devil’s Food Chocolate Cake Mix made according to package directions, see water note,  (15.25 ounces box)
  • 1/2 cup of Cooled French Vanilla Coffee
  • 2 to 3 Teaspoons of Coffee Flavored Liqueur
  • 1/2 Cup of Semisweet Chocolate Chips
  • Assorted Candy Corn and Candy Pumpkins for Decoration

Directions

  1. Preheat oven according to cake mix instructions usually 350 degrees.  Prepare bundt cake pan by spraying with nonstick spray.
  2. Make devil’s food cake mix according to package’s directions.  However, add a half cup of coffee and then subtract that amount from the full amount of water.
  3. Add coffee flavored liqueur and mix well.
  4. Bake according to package’s directions.  Cake is done when a cake tester or wooden skewer comes out clean.
  5. Allow cake to cool 10-15 minutes in the pan.  To remove, poke a wood skewer around the center and outer edge of the pan.  The cake should come out cleaning with no knife marks in it.  Allow cake to completely cool before decorating.
  6. Melt the semisweet chocolate chips in a microwave safe measuring cup for one minute and stir until smooth.  If the chips are still not melted, microwave for an addition minute or so.
  7. Evenly spoon the melted chocolate over the top of the cake allowing it to to run slightly down the sides.
  8. While the chocolate is still wet, press in candy corn and candy pumpkins.  I’ve used a very simple design to top my cake.

The finished chocolate mocha cake looks and tastes great but best of all it was easy to make.

If desired, you can add a little more chocolate liqueur to your cake batter but I don’t want to over power the cake.

I paid less than a dollar for this boxed cake mix, so you can make a very attractive Thanksgiving cake dessert for very little money.

This cake can also be made for Halloween.
