Welcome all holiday decorating fans because today Farmhouse Magic Blog is decorating the fireplace mantel.
Decorating Concerns when Decorating the Fireplace Mantel
There are a couple of considerations when decorating a fireplace mantel.
First, don’t use anything which is too valuable or flammable and be sure to place all the decorations away from the fire source.
Secondly, do not use anything on the mantel which is easily smoke damaged.
Lastly, the mantel is usually the showpiece in the room and it must look festive.
Mini Artificial Tree & Glass Squirrel
We initially put up a small holiday tree and a glass squirrel for an outdoor theme.
The photograph on the left shows that small artificial tree in a burlap base.
Ribbons, small packages, and flower picks decorate the tree.
The clear glass squirrel goes nicely with the outdoor theme.
Vintage Plates Among Greenery
Two vintage plates pick up the green and red holiday colors.
The first plate is an antique Burgess & Leigh Chinoiserie Revival Indian Tree dish from 1862 to 1907 and the second plate is an Allertons plate made in England in their Chinese pattern.
Some bright faux red berries swags help with the look.
Secondhand Firewood Holder
The secondhand firewood holder looks perfect near the fireplace.
The hardwood firewood sits ready to make a roaring fire.
The fire holder is also extremely well-made.
Mini Train Boxes
The last thing we went to add to the mantel is a set of red, green and white train engines. Small Christmas bulbs and other items fill the bodies of the train engines.
The train engines date back to 1986 and made in Sir Lanka. The hand painting on the bodies of the trains is very detailed.
Completed Project
The decorated mantel project is now done. I, also used a couple of battery operated candles to complete the look. Unfortunately, I am out batteries, but the mantle definitely needs some light on the decorations.
Three long faux red berry branches runs over the train engine set. Up close, you will notice the berries are encrusted with “icy snow”.
I also added some fresh sprigs of boxwood that I first soaked in cold water. The last step was to add the faux white poinsettias and pine sprigs.
