Clay Chimineas

I have been thinking of buying a clay chiminea for my patio.  Chimineas are outdoor patio fire pits.

Chimineas originated in Mexico many years ago.  They can keep an area warm with only a few sticks of wood.

Chimineas can be made with a variety of materials, but I personally like the ones made of clay.  They usually have a base of supporting metal legs.

The chimney chute protects the fire from rain. They have a more controlled fire than a fire pit.  Chimineas also keep smoke away from people sitting around it.

Chimineas were originally made to bake bread.  I guess you could make a casserole or other food with it but I would have to check about that.

I’ve read online that the chimineas need to be initially “cured” with a couple of small  wood burning fires to prevent cracking.

I have some decisions to make regarding the purchase of a chiminea but that can wait for another time.
