Years and years ago, I took a high school ceramics class.
The class was taught by a very good art teacher. He introduced the participants to the various types of clay projects including clay sculpture.
I made this piece and have entitled it, “Baby Doll”.
I also had a clay coil project which I never finished. I guess that must have broken at some point over the years since I no longer have it.
Up Close View of Baby Doll SculptureIn looking at “Baby Doll” she does have a few adorable flaws.
One thing, I didn’t apply enough red paint and parts of her red dress turned gray.
Her eyes and eyelashes are probably too large for her face but that just makes her more endearing to me.
At some point when the piece was firing in the kiln, the red bow on her head fell off.
The art teacher went and reattached it. I’m not sure how you would do that with a super hot kiln but it has never fallen off again.
“Baby Doll” sits primly with her hands in her lap and has curly black hair which collects lots of dust.
She is hollow but very heavy.
Sitting Sculpture- Baby DollSo what special place does “Baby Doll” take up in my home?
She currently sits on my dresser in the spare room.
I place my long necklaces over her red hair bow which keeps them from getting tangled.
“Baby Doll” just smiles and goes along with it all.
