Bunny Man

I was watching the television the other day, when a segment came on about the Bunny Man. Yes, I’ve heard about this urban tale before. I checked online with Wikipedia but their article needs additional citations for verification.

How Urban Legends Start

Bunny Man is an urban legend that originated from two separate incidents in southern Fairfax County, VA, in the 1970’s. There are many variations of the story but most say there is a man wearing a bunny costume who attacks people with a hatchet sometimes telling them they are trespassing.

The hatchets in today’s blog belong to me and, of course, were never used in a Bunny Man attack.

Most of the stories occur around the Colchester Overpass near Clifton, VA.

There are many different versions of the Bunny Man story such as his name, weapons, etc. Some even say he only comes out on Halloween.

Today’s photograph was taken for a blog dealing with the sport of axe tossing or throwing.

The first incident was reported back in 1970 when a man and his fiancée were visiting relatives at night. They noted a man wearing a rabbit costume who broke their car window with a hatchet. As they drove away, they saw the hatchet on the car’s floor.

Teacher Koi Koi

Interestingly, the Bunny Man’s online source stated to check out the Nigerian urban legend about a female teacher’s ghost who haunts boarding schools. This fashionable lady is often seen wearing red high heeled shoes which make the sounds of “koi koi” when she walks. The story goes, on her journey back home, she dies in an accident. She then takes revenge on the students and the boarding school.

Of note, there is a movie has recently been made of this teacher’s ghost. I watched the trailer and, yes, it looks pretty scary. But, I’m not a fan of scary movies.

Ending Notes on Bunny Man Blog

No, I have never visited the spot of this particular Fairfax urban legend. Apparently, they get lots of “ghost hunters” investigating this tale. On Halloween 2011, over 200 people were turned away from the site during a traffic checkpoint.

Boy, this would have made a great Halloween blog, right?

This blog is dedicated to urban legends everywhere.
