Blogger’s True Story – Motel Maids
Since I’ve now had over 100 blogs, I decided to mix things up today with a blogger’s true story.
Yes, the blogger of Farmhouse Magic Blog was once a motel maid at a fancy upscale golf resort.
I cleaned dirty toilets, scrubbed grimy tubs, and made beds. We folded the toilet paper in to little sharp points and the tissues were fluffed to look like bows. After the room was neat and tidy, the maids would rake up the shag carpet as they left the room making sure there were no visible footprints.
I, also, know of a couple of motel maids who would quite regularly go into the occupied motel rooms and try on the mink coats hanging in the closets. They would preen in front of the mirror, all sweaty, wearing those expensive mink coats. Of course, this was when it was still OK to own a mink coat and there was no video surveillance. I wonder if they would get away with it now a days?
But the real true story is, after being prompted by my girlfriend’s father, I remember going to the front desk with her as she asked for us to be paid minimum wage. She told the management that her father said it was illegal for them not to do so. Of course, I guess that was just an oversight on the part of the management as they really looked shocked. After that day, we were both paid the minimal wage but I wondered about the non-English speaking maids and other personnel that worked there. On that day, do you think they, also, got the minimum wage at that fancy golf resort?
