Instead of blogging all about today’s Thanksgiving meal, I decided to take a trip down memory lane and talk about being thankful. I’m talking about being Thankful for good memories from past Thanksgiving meals.
Past Thanksgiving
In thinking about the past, it wasn’t too many years ago that we celebrated every Thanksgiving and, usually, Christmas together as one large family.
For the meal we all gathered in a large formal dining room. The center of the table had a wooden leaf put in to accommodate the extra family members who traveled near and far to be at the table.
There was always a large turkey and, sometimes, an oil fried turkey so everyone ate their fill. Usually the menu included buttered vegetables, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, gravy and rolls. Wow, those homemade pies and other desserts went down great with a cup of coffee.
Usually, my job was to make a small relish dish but, generally, I never brought anything to eat. All and all, there were too many cooks in the kitchen at this point.

Seating Arrangements
I always sat at the bottom of the large table near one corner. The kiddos sat in the center of that long table. The far head of the table was always reserved for one of the grandparents.
Occasionally, an extra guest or two sat with the family.
After the meal we all ate dessert and coffee. People would gather in the living room to watch the TV and to talk. I remember the room was always warm and comfortable.

Ending Notes on Being Thankful
Wow, I can really say that I am thankful for those memories. Unfortunately, things change and we learn a new routine for the holidays.
As it turns out, during that meal, we all got a bit of love, warmth and happiness from those who truly loved us. I was told I was thought of as the “third daughter”. How can you top that?
Thanks for the memories, everyone! Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!
