Basement Cleaning Tips & the Red Hatchet Vest

Items to be Trashed in the Basement Items to be Trashed in the Basement

This week I’ve been cleaning out the basement.

It’s a huge basement so I started from one side and I’m working my way around the walls until I’m back where I started.

I’m trying to keep all of the same items together such as painting supplies, garden tools, Christmas decorations, etc.

After I go through all the boxes, I’m going to sweep and wash the floor.

The basement has never been given a good cleaning and it is a real mess.

I’m trying to recycle as many of the items as possible.  I don’t want to toss out something that another person might be able to use.  I have a box filled with good items which I plan on donating to charity.

It’s a great time to undertake this project, since I’m on stay at home orders from COVID-19.

In one of the boxes, I noticed this red homemade vest with the letters, “Hat” and “Chet” on the pockets.

The vest is made out of red felt with a blanket stitch around the edges.

The pockets are sewn on with a simple stitch.

Out of each pocket is a  felt hatchet which has been glued on to the vest.

Was “Hatchet” the name of a person, a book, or does it have some other significance?  To be honest I just don’t remember.

So it is back to cleaning out the basement.
