For lunch today, we went to astro doughnuts & fried chicken in Falls Church.

When the technical director at Farmhouse Magic Blog invites me out to lunch, I always go because he is in the know about finding great places to eat and today was no exception.

Storefront of astro doughnuts & fried chicken

This restaurant mixes two favorites, that is, doughnuts and fried chicken. They even sell a chicken sandwich made with two doughnuts instead of rolls.

Large & Unusual Doughnut Selection

They have a huge doughnut selection with yummy sounding names. Cherry cheesecake, maple bacon, and crème brulee to name a few.

What’s for Lunch?

For lunch today, we had fried chicken sandwiches and shared a Samoa doughnut for dessert which tasted like coconut cake.

Large Selection of Doughnuts

We had fried chicken sandwiches on cheddar biscuits.

The restaurant has an area out front to sit and enjoy the meal plus there is a table or two outside the front door you can use.

This is one of the tables in the restaurant.

I like the chicken wire light fixtures as it is keeping with in the theme of the place.

Needa, I hope that is the correct spelling of her name, is the manager there. She is efficient, friendly and helpful.

I also want to thank Needa for allowing me to take photographs and to blog about astro doughnuts & fried chicken.

History of astro doughnuts & fried chicken

An interesting bit of history is that the place was begun by Elliot Spaisman and Jeff Halpern, two Washington Capital hockey players.

The two friends share a passion for comfort food and tradition, and so they together opened this restaurant.

Ending Comments

Our lunch was great but I also noticed one more thing, they serve their take out meals on paper clamshell packaging.

Thanks everyone for help saving the earth and, also, Happy Earth Day!
