Secondhand Purchase

After Holiday Purchases

I stopped in my church’s resale shop to check out the sales and to blog about my After Holiday Purchases. This secondhand store has a lot of empty shelves since the holiday items are marked down to up to 70% off.

Of course, I was able to find a couple things that I wanted and could use next year.

Glass Angel – After Holiday Purchases

So, the first item I picked up, is a small glass ornament in the shape of an angel. It still has a tag on it indicating it is an Old World Christmas decoration.

One of the sales staff said the Old World Christmas company is well known in certain collectable circles.

The detailed angel has flowing blond hair with blue eyes, a red gown, and blue wings and is from 2004. It also has a small heart shaped tag on it. However, I wasn’t able to find a photograph of it online or any additional information. It, also, did not come with a box.

Since it was under $5, I purchased it and began researching the item.

I packed this glass ornamental angel with paper and placed it in a small box prior to storage.

Old World Christmas

Old World Christmas has an interesting online sales site. If you can think of an object or have a particular hobby/passion, they probably have a Christmas bulb relating to it. There is even a place on their online site, that you can add suggestions for new bulb shapes.

Old World Christmas is a company based in Spokane, WA and sells more than 1,500 different types of hand-blown ornaments. It was founded originally in 1979 by Tim and Beth Merck who both love Christmas and mouth-blown ornaments.

With mouth-blown ornaments, the molten glass is mouth-blown into a carved mold, then a hot solution of liquid sliver is poured inside. Each ornament is hand-painted and glittered.

The Old World Christmas ornaments I’ve seen online are finely made. The designs can be anything from Santa Claus, a beer bottle, lunch box, yellow pencil or even a gelatin mold.

From 1984 to 2000, the Merck family’s Old World Christmas ornaments were produced by Inge-Glas of Germany to be distributed in the US. In 2001, the production of ornaments was moved to China. The ornaments made in China are no longer capped with Inge-Glas’s trademark star crown.

Then in 2014, the company was sold to Douglas Lauder of Gladstone Investment Corporation. Douglas Lauder became the company’s new CEO.

So far, that is all the information I can find about this company but will update my Readers if I find any additional details.

Vintage Green and Purple Christmas Ornament

Another of my after holiday purchases, is a vintage-looking green and purple grape glass ornament. I’m saying vintage because of the top cap of the ornament is small and some of the paint is worn off the finish.

I’m calling it a grape cluster but the it also could be some type of berry ornament. The leaves on the cap also look like grape leaves to me.

Small Candy Cane

I’m not sure why this very small candy cane appeals to me but it costs next to nothing.

The candy cane is made from white coated wire with a red stripe wrapped around it. The cane is topped with a gold thread for hanging.

I’m not sure why this small candy cane decoration is so appealing, but the price was right.

2022, Second Hand Store Christmas Sales, Vintage?

Ending Notes on After Holiday Purchases

I’m looking forward to 2023 and hope my Readers have enjoyed today’s blog on second hand after Christmas sales.

Please note, that the vintage grape cluster glass ornament and mini candy cane were donated to a local historic site for inclusion in their old fashion Christmas display for next year.

For a better world in 2023, don’t forget to recycle and reuse!
