A Walk in the Neighborhood, 2

Every time I talked to my mother, she would always ask, “What’s blooming in the garden?” She loved plants and so do I.

Yesterday I took a short walk in the neighborhood to check out all the new flowers and plants. So here’s what’s new.

This iris plant has been planted near a mailbox.

The above and below photographs of the deep purple and white iris plants really got my attention. They are striking to look at. Sometimes the blooms from iris plants grow so tall that they tip over to the ground.

Iris plants need to be planted in a sunny, well-draining area of your garden. The iris rhizomes need to be slightly planted above the soil line to keep from rotting. Too much water will also rot the rhizomes. Once established, the plants should be divided.

Irises are drought resistant and can be planted as part of xeric garden.

Purple and White Iris Plantings

The below photograph shows a playful use of a red wheelbarrow. The owner carefully placed the wheelbarrow in the flower patch. It works as a fun garden decoration.

The homeowner also painted a small table and chairs with the bright cherry red color to match the wheelbarrow. You can see the edge of the chair in the photograph.

I’m always for recycling things, so keeping this wheelbarrow out the dump site, gets a thumbs up from Farmhouse Magic Blog.

In the below photograph, I liked the way this person has planned their plantings by having every plant laid out before placing it in the ground. I think this would save a lot of time and effort and everything will look just right.

It looks like the owner is planting some new begonia plants for summer.

Preplanning Flower Placement

I always get lots of ideas by walking through my neighborhood.

Do you have any iris plants in your flower garden?

This light green plant in my garden has showy leaves and will soon bloom.
