A Day Trip to Old Town Warrenton, VA

Over the weekend, we visited Old Town Warrenton. The small town charm is evident by well-kept stores, restaurants, and helpful people.

When arriving in Warrenton, we noticed that there was a Black Lives Matter gathering. From my understanding, this group meets frequently on weekends in the center of Old Town Warrenton.

Warrenton is known to be Virginia horse country and even has a saddlery shop. It also has many nearby vineries and quite a few restaurants. Throughout the year, the town hosts a variety of special events such as parades, festivals, and other happenings. Of course, these events all depend if the COVID cases remain in check.

For Civil War history buffs, you can walk by the home of Confederate cavalryman Colonel John S. Mosby or visit the Fauquier History Museum at the Old Jail. The brochure states that the 1808 brick held prisoner hangings in the jail yard until 1896.

I stopped in the old bank building which I believe is the town’s visitor center. The place was clean and had bathrooms available.

I believe this photograph was taken in front the the old bank/visitor center.

On our visit, we noted a farmers’ market on a back street.

I liked the variety of stores and enjoyed window shopping in Old Town Warrenton.

The town also has a number of art galleries for those art lovers.

I noticed one dance studio’s window advertised a Swan Lake performance with a fun blow-up swan for a swimming pool and tuffs of tulle netting. Clever and cute advertising for the studio.

Old Town Warrenton is a great place to visit and to soak up some of the town’s history.
