Yesterday I could hardly believe the pea-sized hail stones that fell from the sky.

The hail stones pounded on the windows and the roof sounding like a million metal spoons tapping on the outside of the house.

I took several photographs but, since it was nearing dusk, only a few photographs turned out clear enough to use.

I don’t think anything was damaged but I’ll have to check things out tomorrow.

What are Hail Stones?

Hails stones are actually up drafted precipitation which freezes in the cold upper region of thunder storm clouds.

It then returns to earth in clumps of layered ice called hail stones.  If you look carefully at a hail stone, sometimes you can see the layers of ice.

Hail stones can damage cars, houses, or airplanes.  They can also harm animals or humans so please take cover if you are caught outside during a hail stone storm.

This also got me to thinking about my blog on Earth Day and the extreme weather we are having due to global warming.

Melting Hail Stones on Welcome Mat

As the hail stones slowly melt on my welcome mat, another day is ending.
